Emerald Grove dinner celebrates land donors, contributors

FALLBROOK — At the Ninth Annual Emerald Grove Recognition Dinner, held April 9 at the Grand Tradition by the Fallbrook Land Conservancy (FLC), Carolyn Major and Bert Hayden were recognized with the Gem of a Volunteer award.

Major, an eight-year member of the Fallbrook Community Planning Group, has served as the chairperson of the Parks and Recreation Subcommittee and as liaison to the County of San Diego’s Trails program.

Known as an effective advocate for the adoption of the trails plan for the Fallbrook community, Major was honored for her service.

Hayden has aided the organization by serving as a trail boss and helping organize major workdays on the extensive Santa Margarita trail system managed by the FLC Trails Council on Fallbrook Public Utility District land. He also serves the community

as a member of the board of directors of the utility district.

“Trails give us access to the natural world,” said Wallace Tucker, chairman of the FLC, in presenting the awards. “They keep us in touch with the vital forces and they make our community more livable. We are very fortunate to have two dedicated volunteers such as Carolyn and Bert doing such great work to enhance existing trails and plan for future ones.”

The FLC also observed the 20th anniversary of its incorporation on April 4. Originated in 1988, the organization now owns and manages 1,840 acres, maintains dozens of miles of trails and has planted thousands of trees in the community.
