De Luz fire involves five acres

A brush fire, ignited by a vehicle fire, consumed approximately five acres in the vicinity of Sky Ranch and De Luz Murrieta Roads on Thursday afternoon, April 17. CAL FIRE San Diego crews responded to the incident, although it took place on property just across the Riverside County line.

“There was a threat to a structure for a little while; but no structures were damaged or destroyed,” reported Darrin Howell, a fire captain for CAL FIRE. The fire traveled up drainage areas between avocado groves. It began at approximately 3:42 p.m. and was completely extinguished by 8 p.m. No injuries were reported.

“It was a long, skinny fire – about 400 feet long and 100 feet wide,” Howell said. “We had fourteen engines, five hand crews, two helicopters and three chief officers on the scene.”
