Fallbrook Healthcare District

The healthcare district’s role in the community of Fallbrook, Bonsall, Rainbow and De Luz is diverse and challenging.

The board of directors and staff of the district focus on identifying, promoting and supporting a broad range of healthcare-related needs within the district while managing district assets and collaborative planning efforts with community leaders and hospital management to continue services provided by Fallbrook Hospital.

The community healthcare programs of the district in the past year have addressed health concerns in several important arenas.

The Community Collaborative Committee initiated a probe into the health concerns presented by the consumption of energy drinks by youth.

“The Energy Drink Revolution” series of articles presented in the Village News provided information to the population that was a disturbing surprise and awakening to the content and impact of energy drinks, especially those which contain alcohol.

Parents, educators, law enforcement and the general population were awakened to a danger of which many were totally unaware.

The outcome of a survey of people of the community will be available soon for publication in an upcoming issue of the Village News.

The Community Collaborative Committee, in cooperation with the Fallbrook Union High School Athletic Department, expanded the athletes’ annual physical exam forms to include more comprehensive medical/cardiac family history with a followup education program.

We are working toward an additional expansion to include query on use of energy drinks by athletes. Cardiac risk is greatly increased by consumption at any time but especially in athletic endeavors.

Other community healthcare programs include the annual health fair, community collaborative committee projects and sponsorship of healthcare service events such as the PSA Screening and Healthy Woman program.

The grant program provides funding to local nonprofit healthcare agencies to assist in delivery of medical, dental and mental health services and programs to members of the community.

These agencies provide treatment, prevention and support of a number of healthcare programs such as: the Food Pantry, the Fallbrook Family Health Center, the Smiles Project, People to People, Think First, TIP (Trauma Intervention Program), North County Fire Protection AED program and more.

This program is in its ninth year and has provided funding to programs that may otherwise not been available to this population.

The annual health fair, held at the local Community Center, brings health screenings and information to the population at no cost to the participants. Glucose, cholesterol, dental, hearing, vision, body fat – and more are available.

The collaborative sponsorship and work of multiple agencies and more than 100 volunteers makes this event happen, serving 1,000 or more residents each year!

First and foremost, the district is mindful of its fiduciary responsibility in safeguarding the assets of the district. Approximately two-thirds of the annual receipts of the district’s revenue from property taxes are invested in interesting-bearing accounts that are chosen for safety of principal, liquidity and rate of return, in that order.

Current reserves exceed $6 million. These reserves are focused on maintaining a continued presence and service of the Fallbrook Hospital.
