RE: 3/23 letter to North County Times

As a US citizen, and a Republican, John Bulat of Escondido has every right to find fault with the current Democratic-controlled US House and Senate.

He goes on to list some of the things wrong with our great country. These include the terrible economic situation we face, the fact that our schools are woefully short of adequate funding, the fall from grace of the once almighty dollar, the lack of control at our borders and the decision to use our federal funds to bail out private Wall Street investment bankers – while pretty much ignoring the real problems of the middle-class.

All good points – and oh so true! Unfortunately, his suggestion is to use the fox to guard the chicken house! In other words, he suggests that we elect a Republican President and majorities in the House and Senate in 2008 – and task them with another GOP “Contract with America!”

You are so wrong, Mr. Bulat! As an old-time Republican, I can tell you that our party has been taken over by corporate manipulations since the days of Newt Gingrich and the “Young Turks.”

What this country needs, and will get in November, is a humiliating defeat by the Democrats – as well we should! Not a pretty picture, but a necessary prelude to the return of the GOP to its real owners and principles.
