Well, of course it is an attempt to stop the quarry

The charge by Gary Johnson that Temecula’s annexation is an attempt to stop the quarry is absolutely the truth. But why does he call it a “blatant attempt?” All the opponents of this obtrusive mining proposal have been open and forthright about this. What is “blatant” is the way this corporation is trying to move in on a pristine land to destroy it.

I read a firsthand account recently which demonstrates who is “blatant.” This was the commentary:

“I’ve attended most meetings on this issue; looked at both sides. As a matter of fact, lived on both sides. I grew up near the open pit con-rock quarry in Irwindale, CA. Similar in size and mining process to the proposed Liberty Quarry. Plug in the numbers, the Irwindale property and quite a large surrounding radius is depressed, low property valued, barren, congested with collateral industry and the surrounding cities are tomb-like.

“I was there before, born in 1948, I remember the San Gabriel foothills full of wildlife, creeks, trails, trees, clear water, majestic views, with peace and quiet. All gone now. To the annexation opposition and NIMBY or special interest bashers, go ahead and keep your children indoors playing at their mindless video games. Don’t allow them open space, nature, beauty, a chance to see wildlife, clean air, unmolested hillsides, or truth. I invite you to take a ride with me to what will become of this jewel; bring your children, bring your camera, bring your brains.”
