Let's pray

Prayer…talk to any Christian and the vast majority would say that prayer is important, useful, powerful and effective. However, do we really practice it? We say we believe in it; we know God calls for it in His word; but are we engaged in it? Often when someone is in difficult circumstances you hear them say, “Well, I guess all I can do is pray…” When I hear that, I often reply, “The most powerful thing you can do is pray…”

We see time and time again in the Bible, God hears the cries of his people when they come to him in humility and dependence upon him. We read that “The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.” James 5:16

Change happens when God’s people come to him and pray. Most of us are familiar with 2 Chronicles 7:14, which says, “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” What a powerful promise if we will but pray!

On Thursday, May 1, our community has a great opportunity to come together with one purpose in mind and that is to pray. May 1 is the 57th annual observation of the National Day of Prayer and a community service is being planned to be held at Zion Lutheran Church at 1405 East Fallbrook Street at 7 p.m.

There will be a community choir led by Conrad Lindberg and anyone who likes to sing is welcome to come to the practice on Tuesday, April 29, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Fellowship Hall. You can contact Conrad at [email protected] or (760) 728-8288.

Do we believe that prayer is important, useful, powerful and effective? Please join me and hundreds in our community as we humble ourselves, pray, seek God’s face and turn from evil ways so God may forgive and heal our land. See you Thursday, May 1, at 7 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church!
