Hospice offers volunteer training, education class

NORTH COUNTY — The Elizabeth Hospice seeks caring people to participate in the Spring Volunteer Training and Community Education class that will be held May 7, 8 and 9 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Elks Lodge at 2430 South Escondido Blvd., Escondido.

Volunteer training is free and open to the public. Bilingual volunteers are needed.

Professional staff at The Elizabeth Hospice teach the class, addressing issues such as hospice care, spiritual concerns, working with nonverbal patients, cultural diversity and active listening.

Graduates of the class will serve their communities in a variety of ways: as volunteers in hospice, pastoral care, nursing facilities, social service agencies and children’s support programs. Volunteers will work in their community.

Contact a volunteer coordinator at (760) 737-2050 to register by April 30.
