Mini Doll Friends present annual show, sale

FALLBROOK — Mini Doll Friends of Southern California will present the 31st annual Doll Show and Sale on Saturday, May 3, from10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Fallbrook Presbyterian Church Hall, 463 South Stage Coach Lane. A $4 donation is requested at the door; children under 12 free.

The sale consists of sales tables with dealers from many areas of Southern California offering a great variety of antique and collectable dolls, supplies, miniatures, teddy bears, toys and doll-related items.

In addition to the sales tables, a museum quality exhibit will be displayed by the Mini Doll Friends members with the theme “String Along with the Merry Marionettes.”

Marionettes are jointed puppets worked with strings controlled from above. Featured this year will be “Little Red Riding Hood” by Connie Tognoli of Fallbrook; “Little Black Sambo” by Club President Gloria Osborn of San Diego; “Little Boy Blue” by Flore Emory of Fallbrook, “Pinocchio” by Dode Sharp of Fallbrook, “Peter, Peter Pumpkin Eater” by Vyke Salsgiver of Fallbrook, “Tom, Tom, the Piper’s Son” by Mary Olsen of San Marcos, “Rumpelstiltskin” by Sue Temblador of Temecula and “Peter Pan” by Patricia Hollister of Oceanside.

As usual, last year’s exhibit will be shown again this year. It features international costumed dolls, researched and dressed by each member. The beautiful 11-inch porcelain doll was made for each member by club member Vyke Salsgiver. These dolls are a beautiful tribute to Salsgiver and her skill as a porcelain doll artist and are even more precious to the members since she lost her home and entire doll collection, as well as her doll making supplies, in the Rice Canyon Fire in October.

The proceeds from the show enable the club to continue to support local charities and county libraries. Members of the North County Doll Club will provide a variety of delicious food for sale. For more information, contact Connie at (760) 723-0790 or Gloria at (619) 298-2447.
