Soroptimist honors awardees at luncheon

FALLBROOK — Soroptimist International of Fallbrook honored three local residents with awards at their recent luncheon.

Carla Mercado received the Violet Richardson Award, presented by Gayle Marrocco, for her volunteer work at the Boys & Girls Club. Mercado donates most of her time in “Power Hour” helping boys and girls between the ages of 6 and 13 with their homework. A check in the amount of $250 in her honor was given to the Boys & Girls Club.

Angela Appel was honored with the Woman’s Opportunity Award and received a check for $575 to be used for schooling, books or tuition. Angela currently attends Cal State San Marcos, works as a teacher’s assistant at Fallbrook High School and is the mother of two sons.
