Fallbrook pupils' artwork wins place in water calendar

FALLBROOK — Imagine being handed a box of crayons and a blank sheet of paper and then being tasked with illustrating the idea that water is life.

Fourth-graders from schools all over North County did just this. But of the thousands of posters colored, only a select few would make it into the final product: the 2009 “Water Is Life” calendar.

Fallbrook pupils scored three of those top spots. Their colorful images vividly depict the contest’s theme.

The annual contest is held by Fallbrook Public Utility District (FPUD) and 13 other North County water agencies. About 100 Fallbrook fourth-graders participated.

The top three student artists will be recognized at an upcoming FPUD board of directors meeting.

The top 12 artists (in no particular order) include: Tori Sedlmayer, St. Peter’s Catholic School; Aislinn Day, Lizette Flores, Michael Reynoso and Wyatt Peters, La Paloma Elementary; Joseph Nash, Leah Rosenow and Juliana Fadaol, St. Stephen School; and Christina Oftedal, Pierce Gonzalez, Gaby Seals and Michael Sargent, Zion Lutheran School.
