State superintendent recognizes Maldonado/Stamos

LOS ANGELES- Over five hundred para-educators, school administrators and CSEA officials were on hand at the Wilshire Grand Hotel in Los Angeles on Thursday, April 24, 2008 to join Jack O’Connell, California State Superintendent of Public Instruction, in recognizing Leticia Maldonado/Stamos for her work as a teacher’s assistant in the Fallbrook Union Elementary School District and her service to the community of Fallbrook. Maldonado/Stamos has served students in the district for five years as a classroom assistant, teaching English language skills to newcomers and as a reading tutor across grade levels.

Maldonado/Stamos was recognized by O’Connell for her involvement in the Fallbrook A Leer Family Literacy Event (Cesar E. Chavez Day of Service and Learning), as the coordinator of the Fallbrook Latino Parent and Family Literacy Program, a board member of the National Farm Worker’s Service Center, Inc., a folk dance instructor for fifth and sixth grade students, coordinator of the Mentoring to Excel and Empower Together Program, and board member of the Vista Community Clinic.
