Dye, Donoghue, Jimenez, Micone honored

Danielle Dye of Oasis High School and Madison Donoghue, Josue Jimenez, and Juliette Micone of Fallbrook High School were honored as outstanding students at the Fallbrook Community Student of the Month breakfast held May 1 at the Hukilau Restaurant located at Fallbrook Golf Club.

“We have these students to lead our future,” emcee Sue Johnson said to family members, friends, and members of the service and business communities in attendance at the prestigious event. Concluding its 11th year, the Fallbrook Community Student of the Month program has honored 375 outstanding high school students since its inception.

Danielle Dye was honored as a Student of the Month based on the recommendation of Bennie Verrett, an independent study teacher at Oasis High School.

“Danielle has met the goal she set for herself when she came to Oasis – being more focused and increasing her grade point average,” Verrett said. “She has all her work done, and more. She takes pride in her work and has become more confident in her abilities.”

Dye has perfect attendance at school, demonstrates an outstanding work ethic, and is described as “diligent and determined.” In an effort to catch up in her school work, due to what her father said was caused by having to attend school in Guatemala in the past, Dye has carried a heavy work load at Oasis.

“I want to thank everyone for this honor and my parents for always supporting me,” Dye said. “I plan on attending Palomar College and then going on to a four-year university.”

Madison Donoghue was selected as a Student of the Month based on the recommendation of two English teachers, Pam Munro and Connie Fellios.

“Madison is one of our best,” Munro said. “She is one of the best of my career and an amazing young woman. I am so honored to recommend her.”

“Madison is probably the most inspirational student I’ve ever met in my career,” Fellios added. “She is genuine, exuberant, and radiant. She has impeccable integrity and a balanced perspective.”

Donoghue carries an impressive 4.4 grade point average and is lauded by her teachers as a “Renaissance” woman. At Fallbrook High School, some of her involvements include Madrigals, Academic Team, Invisible Children, Link Crew, Warriorheads, Student Senate, Cross Country and Track, Key Club, and student government. She has also donated her time to Arts in the Park, and other worthy causes. Donoghue has overcome many challenges, including losing her (family) home in the 2007 Rice Fire.

“I am so honored to be here,” Donoghue said. “I am going to attend UCSD (University of California, San Diego) and be Pre-Med. I’m really excited. I don’t think I could have gotten through everything without the support system I’ve had at Fallbrook High and at home.”

Josue Jimenez was named Student of the Month on the nomination of English teacher, Vicki Crouch.

“[Josue] is a motivated, kind and intelligent young man,” Crouch said. “He has really been an inspiration to me. He treats everyone with respect and looks at the best in everyone.”

Jimenez is respected by his teachers for the depth in which he is prepared to discuss study material, his diligent work practices, helpful attitude and more. In the past, he has been involved in Future Farmers of America (FFA). With a determined interest in becoming a counselor, Jimenez says he will study psychology.

“My plan is to attend Palomar College, then University of San Diego (USD),” Jimenez said. “I want to be a psychology major and go on to be a counselor, hopefully at the junior high level. I hope to eventually work in Fallbrook or Vista.”

Juliette Micone was heralded as a Student of the Month after being nominated by English teacher Julie Walsh.

“[Juliette] is a fantastic student,” Walsh said. “She deserves any recognition she can be given. I am so privileged that she has been in my class.”

Micone was described as not only an “exemplary student,” but also a leader in the classroom. It was revealed that she has earned fifteen A+’s on her report cards. She is not only a student who has excelled in academics, but also one who possesses a significant talent for art, particularly watercolor painting. She has been involved in the past with 4-H and Girl Scouts, and has a history of volunteering her time to disabled children.

“I’m going to go to UCSD and major in Chemical Engineering,” Micone said. “I am glad I am staying close to Fallbrook. I want to thank everyone for giving me this award.”

“This is your day!” emcee Sue Johnson said to the honorees. “We appreciate you.”
