Junior Garden Club goes International

FALLBROOK- Members of the Fallbrook Garden Club broke ground May 1 at the site of the new International Tree Grove on the La Paloma Elementary School campus. Some months ago, Jr. Garden Club advisor Dave Ashton submitted a grant request to the Landscape Architects’ Association. Their subsequent $5,000 award made preparation of the site and purchase of the trees possible. The six trees planted in the grove are Chinese Pistachio, Chinese Fringe tree, Indian Hawthorne, Eastern Redbud, Bottle tree, and an Arbutus Strawberry.

Along with Mr. Ashton, other Garden Club members Paul Hokeness, Jim Sciarra, Paul Croy, and Bruce Dennett of the Tuesday Work Party group lent able assistance under the direction of Jackie Heyneman, Fallbrook Land Conservancy and Save Our Forest chairperson. On hand also were Nanette Noonan, Margaret Ann Ashton, and Sandi LeMasters cheering on the crew and affirming a job well done.
