Warrior wrestlers honored at awards banquet

FALLBROOK- Fallbrook High School wrestlers and their families came together to celebrate the 2007-2008 wrestling season on Thursday, April 17, 2008, with an awards banquet. The evening included a buffet dinner and a display of pictures of the wrestlers competing at various tournaments throughout the season.

Special attention was given to Brandon Smith and Brett Jones. Smith won the Freshman County Championships in the 140-lb. class, and Jones, a junior, qualified and competed in the California State Tournament.

The evening ended with an awards presentation conducted by Head Coach Roye Oliver, Assistant Coach Greg Wagaman, and Freshman Coach Juan Rodas. Team Captains Antonio Ibarra and Mike Meyers were recognized for their dedication. The award for Most Valuable boy wrestler was presented to Brett Jones (Class of 2009) and Most Valuable girl wrestler to Andrea Gomez (Class of 2011). Best Senior award went to Mike Meyers; Best Junior to Brett Jones; Best Sophomore to Anthony Pando; and Best Freshman was awarded to Brandon Smith. The Sportsmanship award was presented to Mike Meyers. Best Newcomers were Brandon Smith (2011), Matt Rector (2011), and Miles Hamblen (2011). Most Takedowns was awarded to David Lopez (2009) and Most Pins to Antonio Ibarra (2008). The Fallbrook Wrestling Team faced many challenges this year, but they look forward to being stronger next year.

Graduating seniors Mike Meyers, Mike Dorman, and Antonio Ibarra were honored and wished well in their future endeavors.
