Anna Belle Mathwig

Anna Belle Mathwig, 76, passed away Wednesday, May 7, 2008, at the home of her daughter Sandy Stone in Torrance. She was born to Verne and Hazel Martin October 16, 1931, in Los Angeles and moved to the Winterwarm area of Fallbrook when she was 1 year old.

Ann attended Fallbrook Grammar School and graduated from Fallbrook High School (FUHS) in 1949 with highest honors. She was active in music all the way through school, playing the flute and piccolo.

During her senior year at FUHS, she was elected to serve as the first Fallbrook Pioneer Day Queen. She was sponsored by the 20-30 Club, a very active young men’s group in the community.

After graduation, Ann married Gene Mathwig and moved to the Los Angeles area.

She is preceded in death by husband Gene and brother Charles Martin in 2005.

The Martin family is part of the history of Fallbrook. Ann was a beautiful woman, beloved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt who will be missed.

She is survived by daughter and son-in-law Sandy (Robert) Stone and Kristy (Gilbert) Marquez; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sister Mary Rivers, Fallbrook; brother Hugh; and many nieces and nephews.
