Essay winner honored by Republican Women

FALLBROOK — At the May 9 breakfast meeting of the Republican Women’s Federated, held at Fallbrook Golf Club’s Hukilau Restaurant, Fallbrook High School senior Devon Holman was honored as the winner of the organization’s annual essay contest on the United States Constitution. Devon followed in her sister Michaele’s footsteps, claiming the prize for the second time in their family.

Devon’s read her essay, “The United States Constitution: The Elixir of Progress,” to the attendees of the breakfast event.

She closed her essay by writing, “We must never take our freedoms – and the document that guards them – for granted, for in the words of Ronald Reagan, ‘Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same.’”

In the fall, Devon will attend Stanford University, where she has accepted a field hockey scholarship.
