Allen elected as CSBA delegate

Effective this weekend, Dennis Allen, a board member of the Fallbrook Union High School District (FUHSD), will become one of the delegates to the California School Board Association (CSBA) in Sacramento.

This is the first time that any trustee of FUHSD has been elected to this prestigious position.

“I am really honored that my board put forth my name and that other members of the school boards in the county voted for me,” said Allen.

Allen will serve as a delegate for Region 17 in San Diego County. There are currently 23 delegates in the county, he explained. In tandem with this added responsibility, Allen will continue on the FUHSD board, celebrating his twelfth year of service in November.

“Being a board member with Fallbrook Union High School District is one of the better, self-satisfying things that I have done,” said Allen. “It has helped me grow as a person to realize the different responsibilities that you have. This is your community and you are responsible for these kids, the employees and your community.”

Allen has been a dedicated and faithful board member of the drstrict, serving as board president twice as well as in other positions. His diligent efforts have not gone unnoticed.

Making sure he has the appropriate training, Allen has vigorously obtained the educational training necessary, and more, to serve his constituents. He has completed both the highly regarded Master of Boardmanship and the Masters in Governance programs.

“I have been involved with the California School Board Association since I first got on the school board,” he noted.

Allen is a proponent of a strong community infrastructure and serving the community in this way has played an important role in his life.

Along with his duties on the FUHSD board, his delegate position will add some exciting new ones. He will be able to directly amplify the wishes of the Fallbrook board directly to Sacramento.

“This will give our district a little bit of a voice in Sacramento,” explained Allen.

Delegates, Allen explained, provide a link to public officials at the local, state and national level. Other benefits may include the association between board members and the regional director.

The duties of a delegate are immense and may also include adopting policy platforms, offering testimony regarding critical issues and adopting bylaws.

Allen is excited by the opportunity to help Fallbrook at the advanced level.

“I will represent us, as always, with the kids and community in mind,” he said. “I will represent our district and that means community members, too.”

Dr. Robert French, interim superintendent of FUHSD, is also pleased with the news.

“It is a great honor for Mr. Allen and certainly for the Fallbrook Union High School District,” French said. “This is the first representative from our board to serve as a delegate assembly member.”

Allen will be part of a distinguished group, French said, who will have an opportunity to make a great impact on what’s going on in Sacramento through the Board of Directors of the CSBA.

“Mr. Allen understands the needs of this school district, San Diego County and certainly the State of California,” said French.

In the few months that French and Allen have worked together, French said he has gained a great deal of respect for Allen and is thoroughly pleased to hear about his new role with the CSBA.
