FALLBROOK — Hundreds of residents joined letter carriers from the Fallbrook Post Office to help relieve local hunger through the annual National Association of Letter Carriers Food Drive.
Residents left nonperishable donations near their mailboxes and then letter carriers delivered them to the Post Office, where volunteers loaded a large pickup for delivery to Fallbrook Food Pantry, located less than a mile away. More than four tons of food items were collected.
This effort came at a critical time for the Pantry, as the cost of gas, food and medical care continue to rise while seniors and families living at or below the Federal poverty line scramble to put food on the table.
Special recognition for outstanding efforts in support of this year’s Letter Carrier Food Drive goes to Onelia Lopez, Young Milton, Don Luallin, Frank and Sue Russell from Fallbrook Food Pantry, Billy Lockett for help with loading and the Rainbow Girls Fallbrook Assembly #137, along with the Galvan family, who assisted with storage of food items at the facility.
