Frosh/soph team wins rugby championship

On May 10-11, the Fallbrook High School frosh/soph rugby team traveled to San Luis Obispo to compete in the Southern California State Rugby Championships.

The Warriors opened up with a 44-5 semifinal victory over the Santa Clarita Tigers. It took only three minutes for Fallbrook to open the scoring as Martin Barajas touched down the first five points. Also scoring points for Fallbrook were Josh Compos, Kyle Volan, Trevor Krok, Jared Chavez and Dustin Drake.

In the championship match they would face the North County (SD) Barbarians. Just one week earlier these two teams met, in Fallbrook, with the Warriors taking a resounding 53-19 victory. This match would be different.

The championship match started out hard and fast as both teams played very physical and wide open rugby. Fallbrook scored first on good phase play as Chavez scored near the post. After tries by Krok and Jarred Moore, converted by Barajas, the Warriors lead 19-0 at half.

After the half both teams played tight defense. However it was Fallbrook, who scored 10 points from tries by Moore and Gabe Edwards, that finished the scoring. In the end Fallbrook had a well deserved 29-0 championship victory. The Warriors ended the season with a perfect 11-0 record.
