Locals gear up for national day of service

Local youth and adult volunteers will join together to assist survivors from the 2007 wildfires clean up their property in Fallbrook and Ramona. The project is part of the ninth annual Join Hands Day national day of service on Saturday, May 31, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The North County Board of Thrivent Financial has worked with the Fallbrook Fire Recovery Center to identify landowners in Fallbrook who lost their homes in the wildfires. The board has recruited teams of volunteers from Zion Lutheran Church and Christ The King Lutheran Church in Fallbrook and Light of the Valley Lutheran Church in Valley Center to assist identified landowners with clearing their property from weeds and brush after the last rainy season.

Thrivent hopes that this effort will assist fire survivors to move forward in their recovery process. Specific property being cleared in Fallbrook during the Annual Join Hands Day event is on Ranger Road and Stewart Canyon Road. Other volunteers from Ramona and Vista will be working in Ramona.
