Stinson links humor, seriousness in workshop

FALLBROOK — Known for his bold and witty still life and figure painting, award-winning artist Henry Stinson joins Scottsdale Artists’ School’s Great Artists in Great Places series with a week-long workshop beginning June 16 at the Fallbrook School of the Arts.

Having overcome dyslexia as a child, Stinson is said to possess a uniquely supportive teaching style which, coupled with a vast understanding of the human figure, has made him one of the top figure drawing instructors in the Northwest.

Also included in the 2008 SAS/Fallbrook School of the Arts collaborative series are workshops in ceramic portrait sculpture using water-based clay with Jane Kelsey Mapel (July 28-August 1), plein air painting in oil and pastel with Gabor Svagrik (September 15-19), nocturnal oil painting in plein air with Thomas Van Stein (October13-15) and pastel landscape painting with Susan Ogilvie (November 10-14).

All of SAS’ on-location workshops require students with basic drawing skills and some familiarity with the subject matter. Interested students can obtain information and register for classes at (480) 990-1422 or http://www.scottsdaleartschool.org.
