Beltran wins Blood Bank scholarship contest

SAN DIEGO — Naomi Beltran of Fallbrook was one of five students to win the San Diego Blood Bank’s 2007/2008 Student Difference Scholarship Contest. Their efforts, along with dozens of other student blood drive coordinators, helped collect a record-setting 8,225 pints of blood at local high schools this year.

Each of the students will receive a $500 scholarship, compliments of the San Diego Blood Bank. Each recipient played an integral role in the success of their school’s drives.

The goal of the Student Difference program is to educate, motivate and cultivate young blood donors with the hope of maintaining that commitment for years to come. San Diego Blood Bank recruitment specialists work with each school’s blood drive committee to help them coordinate a successful event.
