Laurence Roy "Larry" Krieger

Laurence Roy “Larry” Krieger was born to Harvey and Catherine Krieger of Portland, OR, on June 9, 1937. He succumbed to a cerebral hemorrhage on May 27, 2008, in Fallbrook.

Larry attended Catholic schools in Portland, Mt. Angels Seminary and Portland State University. He moved to San Diego in 1964 and entered the construction industry.

He supervised the planning and construction of many landmark buildings in San Diego, including Coronado Shores, Pomerado Hospital, Mercy Hospital and Thornton Hospital. He also worked on San Diego Airport’s Terminal Two, retiring in 2002 after completing the San Diego Convention Center. Still, he continued to work and consult for several of his lifelong construction friends.

The thrill of Larry’s long career was taking an assignment in Shanghai, China, where he built the Shanghai China Super Mall. Larry and his wife Beverly lived in Shanghai from 1997 to 2000. This assignment allowed them to travel to many other Asian countries. Larry’s top of the world visit to Tibet was his ultimate thrill, along with crossing the Panama Canal.

Larry and Beverly owned the Sunset Lounge in Escondido from 1999 to 2007. He enjoyed golf, playing cards and pool, but travel was always number one on his list.

Larry leaves his wife and companion of 36 years, Beverly Lawson Krieger; sons Bruce, Grant and Todd, Portland, and Brian, Tucson, AZ; daughter Brenda Rubin, San Diego; sister Anne; brother David, Portland; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions in Larry’s name can be made to the Escondido Humane Society, 3450 East Valley Parkway, Escondido, CA 92027.

Services are scheduled for June 13 at 1 p.m. at Poway-Bernardo Mortuary in Poway.

A Celebration of Life will be held June 14 at 4 p.m. at the 19th hole at Rancho Bernardo Country Club, 4650 Dulin Road, Fallbrook.

Larry will be buried in the Lawson family plot at Dearborn Cemetery in Poway.
