Thank you for printing the truth

We, the community, have come to rely on [the Village News’] truthful information about our local crime and increasing violent crime statistics. The seven types of crimes, considered violent crimes that all area law enforcement agencies report to the FBI, are homicides, rapes, assaults, burglaries, grand theft, petty theft and vehicle theft.

Thank you for alerting us about the general locations of the three homes burglarized by the hot prowler (burglars enter home while residents are inside) within 18 days of each other in Debbie Ramsey’s article “Hot prowler hits three homes, burglaries on rise” in your June 5 edition.

It is shocking to hear residential burglaries have risen 30 percent, due to 57 incidences the first five months of 2008, in the greater Fallbrook area. We are already dealing with a 29-percent increase in violent crime from 2007 and it is disturbing to hear that it is still climbing!

Please write, e-mail or fax your elected officials:

• Undersheriff Bill Gore, e-mail [email protected]

• Bill Horn’s office, fax (619) 531-2555

• Sr. Policy Advisor Caroline Smith, e-mail [email protected]

Let them know we don’t feel safe in our homes, neighborhood or community. We need a gang injunction for public safety.

Debbie, kudos to you for printing the truth, because it is hard for us to digest and acknowledge what is really happening with crime in our community. We have to take ownership and collaboratively do something about it.
