Our spiritual homes

I hope all of you are being blessed as the year progresses. I want to encourage you today by asking you a question, but before asking you the question I want to tell you a story. A couple of weeks ago I was blessed with some new carpeting for our house. As I was going about the business of taking up the old carpeting, I was struck by the condition of the floors underneath.

The floor was dusty and in some places even had holes in it. As I continued to notice the poor condition of the foundation of our home, I had a thought, I wondered if my “spiritual” house looks the same way to God. I wondered, do I have a place where Jesus can come and visit? Would He feel like He was home, where He could just kick off His shoes and fellowship with me? Or would He find it hard just to get in the front door, through all of life’s junk I had piled in His way? Would He find a welcome mat out for Him, or would He find the house in disrepair, where He would find it hard to relax once He gained access?

As I began to ponder these very important questions, I could not help but think that there are many of us out there that fall somewhere in between the above mentioned homes.

So the question I am posing to all of us today is, “Are our homes fit for Jesus?” If He came to visit would He find a house that Glorifies God the Father, a house full of love, a house where if He opened our video collection it would be full of movies He wouldn’t be embarrassed to watch?. Would He find our speech acceptable, where words of kindness and comfort are spoken? Or would He want to leave because of the tension?

The bible says, “For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks” (Luke 6:45). What would our speech say about the person who dwells inside of us? I want to encourage the reader to ask themselves these questions and consider if you might need a new interior designer. If you think it might be time to redecorate, I have the greatest designer in mind. His name is Jesus and He is eagerly awaiting your call. He can help you remove all of the junk and replace it with His furnishings. He will even help us keep it clean if we let Him, all we have to do is ask. Thank you for your time, God Bless.
