'Hot Summer Nites' roars into life!

“Are you having a good time, Fallbrook?” a member of Aunt Kizzy’z Boyz band boomed over the loudspeaker. “Yeah!” the audience roared back. Thus began the first of the highly successful and always enjoyable “Hot Summer Nites” events.

Last Friday’s theme was “Sports Cars” and Main was lined with sporty vehicles from all eras. Convertible Mustangs, red Ferraris and a Viper with a license plate that read: “My Other Car Is…Who Cares?”

The street was crowded and some of the shops were still open. Rides for the kids, ice cream, pizza and a wine and beer garden kept everyone happy.

Honorary Mayor John Harris, owner of Sourdough Pizza and member of Connections Fallbrook Networking Group, the event’s sponsor, was serving pizza to attendees.

“It looks to be a big success – lots of cars, lots of people and everybody seems to be having a good time,” he commented.

Miss Fallbrook 2008 Lynita Hernandez was enjoying the night. “It reminds me of a mini Avocado Festival,” she said. “It’s a great time for all of us to get together and enjoy one another and just be the great community that we are.”

Future Hot Summer Nites are free events, but there is always a charge for food and drink. The upcoming Taste of Fallbrook is a spectacular array of foods from local restaurants and caterers that, for a small fee, guests can sample. The diners then vote for their favorite food.

The Chili Contest is always a hot night in more ways than one. Held at the end of August when the weather is usually warm, visitors can sample hot chili from various professional and amateur cooks who use a variety of unique recipes. One year someone even made their own chili powder!
