Bonsall Woman's Club installs new board

BONSALL — San Luis Rey Downs banquet room was the setting for the Bonsall Woman’s Club’s (BWC) installation of its newly elected president, Pat Aspray Harvey, and other officers and chairmen to the board.

Marlene Rantanen, 2002-2003 president, performed the ceremony in keeping with the new president’s theme, “Focus on the Future: Great Expectations.”

Harvey first joined BWC in 1998 and has worked on the club’s behalf in various chairmanships and board positions and contributed to Bonsall’s community spirit by promoting and directing the Girl of the Year awards on behalf of the area’s four middle and elementary schools.

Other elected officers for the 2008-2009 fiscal year are: Gail Golden, first vice president dean of chairmen; Cindy Gibson Floyd, second vice president membership; Jackie Mateas-Nutter, third vice president programs; Robin Scheuer, fourth vice president ways and means; and Marcia Sawyer, recording secretary.

Appointed officers to the board are corresponding secretary Sandy Bell and parliamentarian Terry Fest.

Rounding out the 15-member board are the appointed chairmen: June Bernesser, public relations; Ann Price and Shirley Bennett, hospitality; Diane Trappen, newsletter; Darlene Saylor, fun; and Joan Kaford, president’s advisor.

Outgoing president Kaford gave kudos for the club’s successful programs during the past year: Dress for Success, helping homeless women gain employment; phone cards for servicemen and women; and blue bears for firefighters to give to children in trauma. She also announced the club’s $1,000 scholarships to Erin Marie Frushon, Leslie Grantham, Kevin Vandivort and Anna Phillips.

The club will resume its regular meetings on the first Thursday of every month in September. BWC members are mainly residents of Bonsall and Fallbrook but the surrounding communities of Escondido, Oceanside, Valley Center and Vista are also represented.
