Morrison Law provides personalized assistance

Carleton Morrison and Andrea Aston are the dynamic attorneys who comprise Morrison Law, located in Bonsall’s River Village. The professionalism and genuine care this duo provides to clients makes them highly respected.

The offices of Morrison Law are located in comfortable surroundings, but Morrison and Aston respect the fact that some clients wish to have them come to their home.

“I just made a house call this morning to an elderly couple,” said Morrison. “We really try to accommodate as much as we can.”

Legal issues are often accompanied with jargon that the layperson has a difficult time understanding. However, Morrison and Aston strive to remove the complexity by explaining legal matters in a simpler fashion.

“One of the problems people have with attorneys is that they don’t have a choice but to trust them because they don’t understand what they are saying,” explained Morrison. “We go out of our way to help our clients understand.”

Aston pointed out that individuals can often be intimidated by lawyers, so she and Morrison do their best to remove that fear.

Their office is devoid of legal secretaries and receptionists. “We answer our own phones,” said Morrison. “We are extremely accessible to people; we return phone calls and we become friends with our clients.”

The primary emphasis at Morrison Law is estate planning. “I like doing estate planning,” said Aston, “because you get a sense that you are really helping people.”

Estate planning avoids costly probate fees and dictates how an individual wishes their estate to be distributed upon their passing.

Today, said Morrison, probate costs, including attorney fees, can range between $30,000 and $40,000. Estate planning eradicates probate.

Experts suggest that estate planning should be executed as soon as an individual owns their first piece of real property and/or has their first child. It is especially important for young couples, said Morrison.

“If you have children, you have something to say about who would take care of your kids if you were to die,” he stated. “You want to be able to nominate the guardian of your children.”

Morrison Law can help people customize their trust and detail how monies are to be distributed.

The attorneys’ unwavering mission is to meet the legal needs of their clients and draft a solution. “There are no two estate plans that are the same,” said Morrison.

Today, there is even estate planning for pets, Aston said. “You can set money aside for your pet’s care.”

This legal team also handles real estate law and asset protection planning.

These days, many individuals are concerned about litigation and getting sued, said Aston. In meeting and anticipating the needs of her clients, she has become adept in asset protection planning.

“We really are Counselors at Law,” she said.

If a trust has been in existence for more than one or two decades, it might be time to review it and make adjustments, these professionals advised. Changes in the law have occurred over the last few years and personal estate changes and decisions may also have taken place.

“It’s important to review [the estate plan] every few years,” said Morrison.

The client referral base for Morrison Law is tremendous.

“It’s important for us to have happy and satisfied clients,” said Morrison, “and the greatest compliment we can get is for someone to introduce us as their family’s attorney. There is not a greater compliment than that.”
