Fallbrook artists show well at fair

The San Diego County Fair has a formidable juried fine art show each year. This year more than 1,300 pieces of art were submitted for entry and about half of these were selected for the exhibit, which is in the ground-level hall under the east end of the grandstand. The Fallbrook Art Association (FAA) is very well represented with 29 of its members showing one or more works of art.

Major prizes were given to the following FAA members: Jim Helms won Best of Show and first place for 3-D for “Rising from the Ashes;” Michael Steirnagle won the Coordinator’s Award for the painting “Waiter;” Patricia Saunders won the Manager’s Award for a watercolor, “Batter Up;” Jack Ragland won first place for the painting “Trabajo;” and Carol Zaleski won first place for her collage “Gail and Me.”

FAA members winning second place ribbons were: Hal Betancourt for his painting “Chip Shot” and Pamela Benson for a watercolor titled “The Same Old Stuff Again.”

The following members won third place awards: Jack Ragland for a nonrepresentational painting, “Arapaho,” and for oil still life “Just Picked;” Lisa Mozzini-McDill for her portrait of “Amy Elena;” and Karen Langer Baker for her art print of “Oh, No You Don’t!”

Many of the Fallbrook artists won honorable mentions: Shirley Calvert (four), Joe Fedorchak (one), Lori Greenstone (three), Jim Helms (one), Karen Langer Baker (two), Sarah Meisenholder (one), Jack Ragland (four), Natasha Ragland (one), William Riedell (one), Michael Steirnagle (one) and Carol Zaleski (one).

Other Fallbrook artists represented in this exhibit are Jim Bates, Rowena Betancourt, Pamela Brasel, Penny Fedorchak, Betty Herrington, Barbara Ollivares, Eileen Pace, Ruth Parker, Jeanne Shanahan, Marlene Sheridan, Phee Sherline, Kathy Stradley, Mary Tomaskevitch and Marjorie Weaver.
