2K4Kids walk to raise scholarship funds

TEMECULA — An inaugural 2K walk has been planned for Saturday, August 2, as a major fundraiser for 2K4Kids, the Kari and Keira Lyn Parker Foundation, established in memory of Kari Parker, a local teacher, and her young daughter, Keira. The community event will take place at Great Oak High School.

Registration will be from 7:30 to 8 a.m. on the day of the event; the walk will start at 8:30. Registration fee is $25; each walker receives a t-shirt and small gift bag. Adults and children are welcome to participate. A social hour and informal reception will follow.

Kari and Keira, the wife and daughter of Fallbrook High School teacher and baseball coach Matt Parker, lost their lives in an automobile accident in June of 2007. Kari was a teacher in the Temecula community for 10 years and had what many describe as a “profound” impact on thousands of teens.

Matt Parker said the foundation was established to raise money for scholarships for deserving students in need. “Part of our plan is to give away scholarships and grants to the communities we have lived in, worked in and placed roots in,” he said.
