Obdulia Varela

Obdulia Varela, a longtime resident of Fallbrook, passed away Wednesday, July 2, 2008. She was 72 years old.

Born May 3, 1936, in San Cristobal, Jalisco, Mexico, to Francisca and Jesus Leon, she was raised in a loving family environment. In 1952 she achieved the accomplishment of becoming a mother to the first of her 10 children. In 1957 she married her best friend, Ruben Varela.

Obdulia was a dedicated mother and wife. After raising her children, she enjoyed knitting, gardening and taking care of her dogs. Her favorite pastime was being an active member of the Fallbrook Apostolic Church. There she could be found worshipping God and bringing smiles to the members around her.

Obdulia, also known as Grandma Lulu, is survived by husband Ruben Varela; children Alicia, Elias, Elvira, Jose, Maria, Gregorio, Lorenzo, Ruben, Carolina and Elizabeth; 34 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

There will be a celebration of life service Thursday, July 10, at 7 p.m. at Fallbrook Apostolic Church, 135 East Ivy Street, Fallbrook.

Burial service will be Friday, July 11, at 10 a.m. at Fallbrook Apostolic Church. Interment will take place at Eternal Hills burial site in Oceanside following the burial service.
