Civil Air Squadron members assist in air show

FALLBROOK — Members of the Fallbrook Civil Air Squadron 87 – Lt. Col. Ron Goins, Maj. John Genduso, Maj. Scott Swanson, 1st Lt. George Watson, 1st Lt. Dan Weisz, 1st Lt. Ben Dacayana, 2nd Lt. Greg Greenwood, SM Jim Slattery and CAWG Lt. Col. Burleigh Putnam – assisted in the 14th annual Ramona Air Show on May 31 and June 1.

The 50-aircraft event included a couple of aerobatic performances, several demonstration flights from various WWII aircraft and firefighting airplanes and helicopters and attracted an estimated 3,000 spectators.

The Ramona Airport is home to the California Department of Forestry fire attack aircraft and is the oldest and most active permanent aerial firefighting base worldwide.

Fire pilots flew the red and white turbine S-2T fire planes and the Bronco II spotter aircraft in mock fire retardant drops and some fast flybys.

The March ARB Aero Club team flew their military-style T-34 Mentor airplanes in a three-ship precision flight demonstration on Saturday.

The Palomar R/C Flyers group also flew their radio-controlled planes that range from one-sixth to one-third actual scale.
