FPUD should be commended for actions

After attending two FPUD Board of Directors’ meetings, I’d like to commend the board members for doing such a great a job giving us helpful information and the best service they can.

Probably the main concern to all of us is: if those of us who have been here for years are forced to drastically conserve then there better not be any more water meters issued! Our board has taken this exact action.

The board has adopted the four-level conservation plan. We are now in the Level 1 stage: voluntary conservation (call FPUD to get the 11 steps you can take to conserve). There will be no new annexations into FPUD water district.

More than likely we will enter Level 2 sometime in 2009, which is: mandatory conservation and no new water meters issued. Level 3 would be: critical drought conditions with 20- to 40-percent cutbacks. Level 4 would be a drought emergency such as some drastic interruption to our water supply.

FPUD is leading the county by taking this action now. The rest of the county would not declare mandatory conservation and no new water meters until Level 3!

The three-tier rate schedule is simply based on usage… the more water used, the higher the rate! We are at the mercy of the water suppliers to our district... the more they charge the more we pay.

At both meetings, it was sad to see how few people attended, even when the second meeting was scheduled later, at 6 p.m.
