What happens if a big earthquake occurs?

FALLBROOK — All are invited to learn what the effects of a 7.8 earthquake would be at a special presentation on Thursday, July 24, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Bob Burton Center for the Performing Arts at Fallbrook High School, 2400 South Stage Coach Lane.

North County CERT is privileged to present Dr. Lucile Jones (chief scientist, USGS, Pasadena), who will cover the possibilities associated with an earthquake of that magnitude occurring along the San Andreas Fault, starting at the Salton Sea, continuing through Los Angeles and ending at Lake Hughes.

Dr. Jones will discuss what will happen to the ground, infrastructure, utilities, damage to buildings, fires, citizen deaths and injuries and the economic impact locally and statewide, as well as to the entire country.

This detailed presentation was put together over the past two years by Dr. Jones and hundreds of scientists and engineers.

In order to ensure adequate seating, organizers ask all who want to come to RSVP by Friday, July 18. Check-in will start at 1:15 p.m. To RSVP, call (76)723-4593 or (760) 731-1429 or e-mail [email protected].
