VFW, hospital collecting used cell phones for soldiers

FALLBROOK — Volunteers from the Fallbrook Hospital Auxiliary and Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Ladies Auxiliary of Fallbrook are working together to support the troops.

They have introduced a recycling program called Cell Phones for Soldiers. It’s easy; people just donate their old cell phones! The phones are sent to Recellular, which in turn pays Cell Phones for Soldiers enough to provide an hour of talk time per phone to soldiers abroad.

Organizers encourage people to ask their neighbors, friends, relatives and business acquaintances to donate so that soldiers can call their loved ones.

Donation boxes are provided at the VFW at 1175 Old Stage Road (Monday through Saturday from noon to 7 p.m.), Fallbrook Hospital Gift Shop (Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.) and the Fallbrook High School Career Center (call 723-6300, ext. 3211, for summer hours).
