Safety of our troops must be respected

I wanted to offer another perspective on the noise from Camp Pendleton. But first let me say that because of the geography and elevation of where we live, I would bet the decibel level at our house is as great as anywhere in Fallbrook.

When George Bush was asked whether there was something people should be doing because the country is at war, he replied they should go shopping. I have another idea. We should understand that our military needs to train and accept that we may be inconvenienced as a result.

I personally think the Iraq War is one of the greatest mistakes our country has ever made. But my son is a Marine, and if firing one more artillery shell or making one more helo pass over my house makes him or his fellow Marines even the slightest bit more prepared and thus more safe, well, they can fire shells and hover over my house 24 hours a day.

To my way of thinking, it is unreasonable to ask our soldiers, sailors and marines to make the enormous sacrifices they have made and continue to make, but for us to be unable to tolerate the preparations they need. They are literally willing to die for us. Against that comparison, how can we complain?
