Riders of the Purple Sage appearing in Fallbrook

Rich vocal harmonies and shredding instrumentalism sum up the sound of the Riders of the Purple Sage, who put a bluegrass twist on vintage cowboy music (“Tumbling Tumbleweeds,” “Ghost Riders in the Sky,” “Cool Water”) as well as their catchy new originals.

The Riders will appear in Fallbrook August 2 at 7:30 at the Mission Theater, 231 North Main, as part of the Fallbrook Americana Music Series.

The name Riders of the Purple Sage is borrowed from the title of a Zane Grey novel published in 1912. Bands under that name were started in 1932 and in 1942.

In 2003 Sharon Willing urged Cody Bryant to carry on the name and lead a new version of the Riders. Bryant and his band are taking their music to new venues and a public that has largely forgotten Roy Rogers and Gene Autry.

Every show proves the magic of the Los Angeles cowboy sound is as powerful today as it was back when they shared the screen with Roy Rogers, Dale Evans and Monte Hale.
