RE: 'Pardon our noise' [Letter, Village News, 6/26/08]

I have lived in the area for more than 50 years. I have, with full knowledge of the potential of noise, smoke and other annoyances from Camp Pendleton, chosen a place to live in Fallbrook that receives the full and direct impact of the noises from our neighboring military base and training facility.

I am personally thankful that Camp Pendleton is there helping to protect us from those who would harm us as a nation and from the encroachment of Orange County. Whenever I hear a boom or cannon fire from Camp Pendleton, I sleep well knowing that it is not an enemy setting off a bomb at a local restaurant, market or school.

The amount of noise that comes from Camp Pendleton is dictated by our nation’s varying needs to train our soldiers; it is not made for the purpose of irritating a few whiners. A lot of good Fallbrook people understand this and accept the need for round-the-clock training.

Get over it, and get a life, or move along to a locale more suited to your needs. If the Marine Corps, Colonel James B Seaton III and our warriors need to train 24 hours a day, seven days a week, I will be thankful to them and for them and not complain.
