Comic strip set to jump to life

Will Aaron Hill finally notice Luann? Will Brad ever get the nerve to ask Toni out on a date? These questions and many more will be answered when Fallbrook Players bring one of America’s most beloved comic strips to life on the Mission Theater stage October 17-26.

Auditions to be in the hilarious musical “Luann: Scenes from a Teen’s Life” are Saturday, August 23, at Christ The King Lutheran Church, 1620 Stage Coach Lane.

“The kids are very fortunate to be able to work with the creative genius behind ‘Luann,’ Greg Evans,” said Cathy Cisneros, president of the board of Fallbrook Players. “Greg is a North County local, so he is available to be at rehearsals to coach the kids with character development, as no one knows what makes these larger-than-life comic characters tick more than their creator.”

“Mr. Evans has also said that working with the actors to bring his characters to life gives the comic characters more depth in future strips, so it is a two-way street,” she added.

Evans agreed, “I do find inspiration in watching real people portray my characters. On paper, they’re just ink lines. When I see them come to life, the performers bring new aspects and nuances to the characters that I often incorporate into the strip. This show has made my strip better.”
