History made at Senior Center

As member after member streamed into the main room of the Fallbrook Senior Center at the last monthly meeting, they ended up with standing room only. Nobody remembers this happening before.

After the meeting, conducted by First Vice President Joe Fahey in the absence of President Don Fichthorn, who was on the sick list, Dee Munoz, program chair for the day, introduced the program.

George McLachlan, daughter Diane Dewenter and her three beautiful daughters enthralled the audience with their beautiful a cappella singing. The girls – Raelyn, 6; Sarah, 5; and Amanda, 3 – started the program by singing “You are My Sunshine,” followed by George singing a Frank Sinatra oldie. Diane teared up as she sang “Enchanted Boy” to her dad.

George’s next offering was a beautiful rendition of the Irish lullaby “Too Ra Loo Ra Loo Ral.” One of the volunteers said that his mother sang the same lullaby to him as a child.

George’s rendition of “Unforgettable” and “Danny Boy” had the group singing along with him. Then Diana invited the audience to join them in singing “God Bless America” in honor of the Fourth of July. The family ended their short concert by singing “Over the Rainbow.”

The Jakov Smirnoff tape of “You Never Thought of it That Way” soon had the group laughing uproariously at Smirnoff’s jokes.

Jean Lockett deserves much credit for the delicious refreshments as well as for the calls she has been making for months to get members out to the meetings.
