Truck driver killed on SR76

PAUMA — On July 29 at approximately 7 p.m., a 47-year-old man from Oceanside was driving a 1989 Kenworth three-axle truck tractor with a tub grinder trailer (wood chipper) on State Route 76 in the westbound lane, east of Valley Center Road, at an unknown speed.

For unknown reasons, the driver left the roadway while negotiating a turn, rolling his vehicle into an orange grove. The driver was ejected and later pronounced dead at the scene. Neither alcohol nor drugs is suspected in the collision.

SR-76 was closed for three hours to clean up the scene and investigate the collision.

The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification to the next of kin from the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.
