Fox signs with San Jose State

Elyssa Fox, a 2007 Fallbrook High School graduate and star pitcher at Cuesta College, has been playing summer softball with a team in Camarillo, the So Cal Diamonds 18U Gold. The team has traveled to Alabama, Las Vegas and Colorado playing in several tournaments.

Along the way, Fox received interest from UNLV, Cal State Fullerton, Vanguard University and Colorado State-Pueblo but had an offer for a full-ride scholarship from both University of Akron (Division 1) and San Jose State University (Division 1).

She made an official visit to Akron last month and then one to San Jose State. After considering all options, she decided to attend San Jose State because of the location of the school, the division in which they play (the WAC, which includes Utah State, Fresno State and New Mexico State) and the experience of the coaches.

The head coach at San Jose State is Peter Turner, a player and coach of the USA Men’s National Softball Team and coach at San Jose State for three years. The assistant coach is Vicky Galindo, a player on the Women’s USA National Softball Team, which will be competing at the Beijing Olympic Games. Galindo has also won gold medals in the World Championships and Pan Am Games.

Fox, the daughter of Doug and Betty O’Hara of Bonsall, will start school at San Jose State on August 28.
