'Sisterhood 2' still brings young women together

“The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2” is a movie about the way four young women are connected and brought closer together by a one-of-a-kind friendship and a magical pair of pants.

As a sequel to the first “Sisterhood” movie, this one deals with the way a friendship between four women can survive a long distance barrier, no matter what.

The second “Sisterhood,” based on the novel written by Ann Brashares and directed by Sanaa Hamri, involves characters Carmen (portrayed by America Ferrera), Tibby (Amber Tamblyn), Bridget (Blake Lively) and Lena (Alexis Bledel).

The young ladies spend their summer apart from each other after they have spent their first year of college apart as well. The movie follows a similar storyline to the book as it shows the struggles the girls face being apart from each other but how time on their own helps them become individuals.

The movie did not include some parts that were in the book that would have added some extra details, but the way director Hamri used the main plot and developed the characters made the movie understandable.

Ferrera, Tamblyn, Lively and Bledel, all talented actresses, were able to bring the characters to life in a fun, entertaining way. The humor these women added to the film and the chemistry they shared on-screen helped transform a well-written book into an interesting, heartfelt movie that women of any age would enjoy.

As a sequel, viewers can see the characters, as well as their friendship, have changed over time. In the first movie, the four friends felt a set of “traveling” pants were magical, because once worn they felt they captured a memory that could be passed on. It was their feeling that by each wearing the pants they shared something important that happened to each of them.

In the second movie, the girls realize that the pants are magical, but in a different way than they thought. They see that it wasn’t a pair of pants that connected them and kept them close, it was the way the pants inspired them to be close friends by doing more than just wearing the pants and sending them on after a certain amount of time. The pants inspired them to be friends who communicate and care for each other.

I recommend that women of all ages see “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2” to learn about and appreciate friendship from a new perspective in this beautiful, emotional story. It is a good example of what it takes to keep a friendship, and a sisterhood between people, strong and meaningful.
