Classes help patients relieve cancer pain

Last updated 8/14/2008 at Noon

The American Cancer Society offers a series of free monthly “I Can Cope” classes for cancer patients and caregivers.

The September session will be from 10 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, September 3, and will cover “Relieving Cancer Pain.” Participants can call in from the privacy of their home or office. These classes are especially beneficial for those who do not have access to support groups.

An overview of pain, medical treatments to control pain will be provided as well as non-medical strategies to empower patients with self-care techniques. Patients will have an opportunity to ask questions.

Future “I Can Cope” sessions will address nutrition during and after cancer treatment and money matters. Call (800) ACS-2345 by Tuesday, August 26, to pre-register.
