Questers present Reche Club with gift

FALLBROOK — The Live Oak Questers donated a portrait of Abraham Lincoln to the Reche Community Club last week in memory of Questers charter member Dorothy Francis, who died last August. A plaque commemorating the donation accompanied the portrait, which replaces one that was stolen from the Reche Schoolhouse several years ago.

The original portrait and a similar one of George Washington had been a gift to the school from one of its graduating classes. Questers Club members had been searching for a like portrait for almost five years when one of them located this one on the East Coast.

In the past, the Questers donated a potbelly stove to the Reche Schoolhouse, restored an old map and repaired the piano and stool there. Questers are dedicated to stimulating the appreciation of antiques and their collection and to restoration and preservation of historical landmarks.

Reche Community Club is dedicated to the operation and preservation of the schoolhouse, which was built in 1896. The club holds a potluck dinner meeting on the second Saturday of each month at 6 p.m. at 1319 South Live Oak Park Road.
