RE: 'Crossover voting' [Letter, Village News, 7/24/08]

I really must take exception to this letter, not because the author, Ann Harter, hopes to negate my vote – that is her privilege – but because of her stated reasons. To characterize Sen. Obama as “probably non-American” or to suggest that his early days, “memories of a European youth,” somehow make him un-American indicate to me that you have an underlying sense of bigotry.

I’m not convinced that her vote for Sen. McCain will cancel out my position; my letters will energize far more anti-Bush voters than will her narrow-minded, vitriolic outbursts.

I thought, and certainly hoped, that we were above such feelings.

By the way, Ann, I never did say that I intended to vote for Sen. Obama, just that I wouldn’t vote for Sen. McCain and the discredited Republican platform.
