New school year on the horizon

Fallbrook High School students are preparing for the start of school.

In order to make sure that this school year is the best year ever, the Associated Student Body (ASB) is working hard. ASB went on their annual Leadership Camp to Palomar Mountain August 8-10.

The camp takes high school students who participate in a variety of extracurricular activities ranging from FFA to sports. While at the camp, this diverse group of students talk about the upcoming year, learn new leadership skills and have some fun as well.

Some of the activities the students participated in included: icebreakers, relays, a “Surviving as a Leader” nature hike, poster-making class and many intellectual conversations.

The students also prepared skits for the Welcome Back Assembly, which will take place on August 29. The camp was one of the best ever, so the upcoming year looks bright.

With school starting August 25, registration took place for all Fallbrook High students last week. On Thursday, August 14, and Friday, August 15, incoming freshmen registered.

After registration, the incoming ninth-graders participated in Freshman Orientation. At orientation, they were split up into groups led by junior and senior Link Crew leaders. The freshmen got to know many of the other students, do icebreakers and get familiar with the campus.

The Link Crew leaders who helped run the orientation will also help the freshmen and their peers once school starts. They put on tutoring sessions and try to keep them involved in the school.

In addition to school starting on August 25, other important dates coming up include:

• August 29: Welcome Back Assembly and varsity football scrimmage against Orange Glen

• September 1-5: Freshman class elections

• September 5: Varsity football game against Murrieta Valley at home

• September 9: Back to School Night

These are just some of the events for the upcoming year. For more updates on events and activities go to http://www.fallbrookhs.org.
