Annual Cleanup/Recycling Day set for September 20

September 20 is the date! Keep Fallbrook Clean and Green has scheduled their annual community-wide Cleanup/Recycling Day for Saturday, September 20, in conjunction with the countywide/statewide cleanup scheduled by I Love a Clean San Diego, the California Coastkeeper and the California Coastal Commission.

Residents will have an opportunity to help with large-item cleanup activities around town as well as to participate in a number of recycling events. They can recycle their e-waste, have their computer hard-drives “destroyed” before recycling, shred old paperwork, dispose of used household batteries, dispose of car and industrial batteries and/or volunteer to help clean up local streets and roadways.

All these activities will take place in the large downtown parking lot behind the Art and Cultural Center at Main and Alvarado, except for the car/industrial battery event, which will take place at BP Batteries.

The free e-waste event is being handled by 1-800-GOT-JUNK?, an Oceanside franchise owned by Bill Cox, a longtime supporter of Fallbrook community cleanup events. Only the following electronic equipment is eligible for disposal at this event: computer monitors, TVs, computers, printers and cell phones. No universal waste will be accepted and no business e-waste will be processed. For more information on disposing junk, visit https://www.1800gotjunk.com/us_en/locations/junk-removal-sandiego.

New this year is a computer hard-drive “destruction” event sponsored by ShredStation, a local franchise owned by Sandy Caso. ShredStation will offer free destruction of all information on any hard drive brought to the e-waste recycling activity. This is a vital process for permanently removing all the information on a computer. Participants will receive a certificate verifying the hard drive destruction once the seven-second process is completed.

Residents may also take advantage of the free paper shredding event sponsored by Thomas Caso of Shred-It of Vista.

The day will also include a car/truck/industrial battery collection feature, sponsored by Dave Gleason of BP (Battery Pros) Batteries. Residents can recycle industrial batteries, automobile batteries, heavy equipment batteries or solar batteries at BP Batteries, 805 East Mission Road, from 9 a.m. to noon.

And don’t forget to bring dry cell household batteries to the community parking lot location for recycling with Keep Fallbrook Clean and Green.

All the recycling events are limited to individuals and are free to North County residents; no materials will be accepted from businesses.

Volunteers for the cleanup activities will also sign in at the parking lot area.

Further details on all these events will be forthcoming in the next several weeks.
