There is no need for empire building

Where have all the good old conservatives who were for less government, less taxes and the Constitution gone?

Many are disciples of Leo Strauss, a philosopher who believed that the elite must use deception, religious fervor and perpetual war to control the masses. Fear of Jews, intellectuals, Communists and now Muslims. They created fear to bolster their power and was lied to… by the media.

“The American people are the best entertained and least informed people on the face of the Earth.” (Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.) Most people know the war in Iraq was not about democracy, freedom or terrorism.

While I like John McCain immensely, I can’t get beyond his bad temper, his obvious lack of short-term memory and energy. This is not the man for the most stressful job in the country.

I don’t know a lot about Barack Obama. He’s a good speaker, young, intelligent and he withstood the intense battle with Hillary very well. He and his wife have absorbed, with dignity, all the childish character-bashing Fox News has thrown at them; that in itself says a lot.

What we need is strong moral character and dialog with all countries, races and religions. Can we not yet realize there is no justification for this shameful empire building? War is not necessary for security and expansion and is not fundamental to civilization.

Are we not ready to try expanding our humanity rather than our military power?
