SAN MARCOS — The premiere screening of a gang prevention video produced and directed by Professor Kristine Diekman of California State University, San Marcos (CSUSM) will be Monday, September 8, at noon on the CSUSM campus in the Clarke Field House. The public is invited and admission is free.
The 25-minute video, titled “Not Too Early, Never Too Late,” was produced in collaboration with the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, Vista Station, and funded by a $30,000 grant from County Supervisor Bill Horn. It includes interviews with parents who have lost their children to gangs, youth in gangs, former gang members, educators and professionals from law enforcement and social services.
Intended primarily for Spanish-speaking parents, the video includes both a Spanish and English version. A discussion with parents, youth, former gang members, educators, law enforcement officials and others will follow the screening.
Diekman, who spent eight months on the project, said she received “outstanding and moving collaboration with members of the San Diego community from all walks of life. They have generously shared their stories of courage in working to prevent gangs and loss in the face of living with gang violence.”
